All Assam Garo NGO’s Forum to Host first Wangala Festival 2025 in Goalpara

Guwahati, November 3:
The All Assam Garo NGO’s Forum has announced the celebration of the first-ever Wangala Festival 2025 in Goalpara district. The two-day cultural extravaganza will take place on November 7 and 8 at Bhimajuli, Garopara, Agia, marking a historic moment for the Garo community in Assam.

A press meet was held on Monday at the Guwahati Press Club, where the Organising Committee shared details of the upcoming event. The festival will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Garo people through traditional dances, music, rituals, and community feasts.

The Wangala Festival, popularly known as the “Festival of Hundred Drums,” is the grand harvest festival of the Garo community. It is celebrated as a thanksgiving to Misi Saljong, the Sun God, for a plentiful harvest and to preserve the age-old traditions that define the identity of the Garo people.

“This will be the first time the Wangala Festival is being celebrated in Goalpara under the banner of the All Assam Garo NGO’s Forum. Our aim is to promote cultural unity and strengthen the bond among indigenous communities of Assam,” said Shri Pholince Sangma, Chairman of the Forum.

The organisers have invited media houses and cultural enthusiasts from across the region to attend the festival and witness the vibrancy of Garo traditions. The two-day celebration is expected to draw large crowds and serve as a platform to promote peace, unity, and the spirit of cultural harmony.
