Guwahati, October 31, 2025: In a landmark move for Northeast India’s healthcare landscape, Global Health Limited (Medanta), one of India’s largest private multi-specialty healthcare providers, has announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art 400+ bed super specialty hospital in Guwahati. Located strategically along National Highway 27 in the industrial area of Sarusajai, the hospital represents a major milestone in Medanta’s mission to make world-class healthcare accessible across underserved regions of India. The project involves an investment of approximately ₹500 crore and is expected to transform the healthcare infrastructure of the entire Northeast.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and Dr. B.C. Roy Awardee Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, said, “The Northeast has long remained underserved in terms of advanced healthcare facilities. At Medanta, we believe that quality healthcare should be a right, not a privilege. Our upcoming Guwahati hospital stands as a reaffirmation of that belief — to provide high-quality, affordable care to everyone, no matter where they live.” Dr. Trehan further emphasized that Medanta’s vision is to bring world-class healthcare closer to every Indian and to make the region self-reliant in tertiary and quaternary medical care.
The new hospital will provide a comprehensive range of super-specialty services, offering advanced tertiary and quaternary care under one roof. It will include specialized departments for kidney, liver, lung, heart, bone marrow, and robotic transplants; cardiology and cardiac surgery (including pediatric cardiology); neurology, neurosurgery, and interventional neurology; orthopaedics and joint replacement; medical, surgical, and radiation oncology; gastroenterology and GI surgery; nephrology and urology; respiratory and interventional pulmonology; ENT and head & neck cancer; plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery; endocrinology, critical care, trauma, ophthalmology, and maxillofacial surgery. The facility will integrate cutting-edge robotic technology, digital healthcare systems, and globally benchmarked clinical practices.
Apart from healthcare delivery, the project is expected to generate 5,000–7,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities across various sectors, including healthcare, administration, and allied services. This will play a significant role in boosting the socio-economic growth of Assam and the broader Northeast, while also positioning Guwahati as a potential hub for medical tourism in the region.
Medanta currently operates six world-class hospitals across Gurugram, Indore, Ranchi, Lucknow, Patna, and Noida, covering over 5.5 million square feet and offering more than 3,300 operational beds. With upcoming hospitals in Mumbai (Oshiwara) and Delhi (Pitampura and Greater Kailash), Medanta’s total bed capacity will soon exceed 2,000 additional beds, strengthening its national footprint.
Founded by Dr. Naresh Trehan with inspiration drawn from globally acclaimed medical institutions such as Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Harvard Medical School, and Imperial College, Medanta has consistently strived to blend clinical excellence, advanced technology, and compassionate care. Guided by its core philosophy — “Har Ek Jaan Anmol” (Every Life is Precious) — Medanta continues its mission to make world-class healthcare accessible and affordable for all.
The upcoming Guwahati hospital is set to mark a transformative chapter in the region’s healthcare journey, setting new benchmarks in medical excellence and ensuring that world-class treatment is no longer a privilege but a reality for the people of Northeast India.
